About Us

Alan J. Benet, CLU, President

Alan founded A.J. Benet Insurance in 1964 while attending college where he majored in insurance at City College of New York. Throughout his career, he has been very active in the insurance industry: served as president of the Life Underwriters Association of Westchester; served as chairman of the CNA advisory council for the Northeast and as chairman of the Encompass advisory panel for New York; served on the national advisory panel for Encompass; and served on the advisory panel for Fireman’s Fund.

Alan received the coveted Fred E. Hamilton Award for service to the community and the insurance industry. He has been honored by the Westchester Jewish Center and UJA/Federation, Mamaroneck and Larchmont. He was the former President of the Westchester Jewish Center, Mamaroneck, NY, and is currently an Honorary Trustee.

He is also former Treasurer of Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club and the recipient of the Cuqua Trophy for outstanding service.

He serves a President of the Tartan Owners Association of the Northeast. Alan also currently is president of the River Oaks Association of homeowners in Stamford, Connecticut and lives in Stamford with his wife Laurel. They are the parents of four children and three grandchildren. In his spare time, Alan enjoys sailing and skiing.

Karen Benet, Producer

Karen began her career at A.J. Benet Inc in 2007. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Psychology. She is a licensed agent for property and casualty insurance and group health and life insurance. Her focus is sales and advertising. From 2008-2012 she served on the board of directors for the Independent Insurance Agents of Westchester County.

Outside of the office, Karen is an avid skier, sailor and runner. She’s participated in numerous races including the 2009 Hartford Marathon and 2011 NYC Marathon. She is also a certified ski instructor and a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America.

Wanda Moore, Account Executive

Wanda is a graduate of Westchester Community College with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Immediately after graduating WCC, she was hired by National Pension Service as a clerical assistant and within months received training as a Pension Plan Administrator. Over the years, she was employed by Novaeon as an Independent Medical Examiner and Executive Administrative Assistant with Strategies for Wealth (an agency with The Guardian Life Insurance Company), working with various life and financial representatives within the agency.

In May 2008 Wanda joined A.J. Benet Inc. as an Account Executive gaining knowledge and experience in personal and commercial lines of insurance. Currently she manages the Life and Group Health Department at A.J. Benet Inc.

Wanda enjoys spending quality time with her husband of 16 years and their two cats Missy and Sarah. In October 2010, she completed her first 5K at the ING Hartford Marathon. She also travels often visiting with family and friends, enjoys reading, music and working out at the gym.

Don Orlando, Claims Manager

Don graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in 1994. He has more than 15 years of experience in customer service and is a licensed insurance broker.

Don joined the staff of A.J. Benet, Inc. in 1999, specializing in claims and personal insurance. His goal is to help expedite a client’s claim and make sure that the claim experience is the best it can be.

In his spare time, Don enjoys mountain biking, hiking, & skiing.

Jeff Pitcher, Insurance Broker

Jeff grew up in the insurance business, as his father, Kenneth, spent his career as an agent for the Equitable Life Insurance Company. When Jeff began looking for a career after graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, his father suggested a career in the property and casualty insurance business and introduced him to Alan Benet. Since 1990, Alan and Jeff have been working together supported by the hardworking, talented, and caring staff at A.J. Benet.

Jeff is proud to have helped hundreds of clients understand and purchase insurance plans that provide high levels of protection, while implementing strategies to keep premiums as low as possible. He focuses on helping clients make smart decisions with their personal property and casualty insurance (well-planned homeowners, automobile, and umbrella liability insurance is a much overlooked area of most people’s financial plans). He also guides clients with their business insurance, group health insurance, and life insurance.

Jeff is blessed to have a beautiful, loving, supportive wife, Nancy, and two sons, Ryan and Bradley. They live in Yorktown Heights, NY.

Carolyn Saunders, Personal Lines Account Executive

Carolyn joined A.J. Benet in April 2007 in an administrative position. In May 2011, she transitioned to Account Representative and has continued to grow and focus on education, efficiency and quality service.

Prior to A.J. Benet, Carolyn was a sales administrator for Fuji Photo Film for over 10 years.

Carolyn lives in New Rochelle, NY with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and going to her children’s little league games and the beach.

Deborah Schutzbank, Administrator

Deborah joined A.J. Benet in 2010. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. After graduating she worked in the banking industry for ten years and was an Operations Officer when she left to raise her family. During that time she worked part time in office administration and volunteered for various committees.

At A. J. Benet, Deborah’s responsibilities include general office administration and processing and policy changes. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and traveling.

Margie Solow, Commercial Lines Account Executive

Margie joined the staff at A.J. Benet Inc. in 2004 as a commercial lines account executive, which allows her to work directly with clients and company underwriters in handling all aspects of an account. She has 23 years of experience as a commercial lines underwriter, in addition to 14 years experience as a personal lines underwriter. She continuously attends industry-wide seminars to stay on top of the changing markets.

She looks forward to assisting her clients with all of their commercial insurance needs, and at the same time provide them with the service they deserve.

Margie lives in Mamaroneck, NY with her husband, where they raised their family. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, various design projects, and travel.

Dan Stewart, Personal Lines Manager

Dan has been a licensed insurance broker since 1988. He is a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in Business Administration and received his formal insurance training through The Aetna Prime Program. He joined A.J. Benet in 1991 and over the course of his career has served on numerous company advisory panels and boards.

Dan specializes in developing and servicing property and casualty insurance programs for the affluent and mass affluent client.

In his spare time, he enjoys coaching youth baseball and football in addition to hiking and mountain biking.
